The Lakes College Primary School is a nurturing and supportive learning environment for students from Prep to Year 6. Our Primary staff are dedicated to ensuring your child’s lifelong learning journey gets off to a great start. The foundations for all future learning are formed during these crucial Primary years and our staff strive to make certain these foundations are solid through engaging and interactive learning experiences.
We believe that for a child to reach his or her learning potential, they must be happy. Through our 3 B’s – Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be a Learner – we work together to ensure each and every child feels safe enough to take risks as a learner and try new things and valued as a respected member of our community . Any obstacles to this happening are addressed immediately and the College treasures the close relationships we have with our parent community.
21st century education is very different to the schooling experiences many adults remember. Learning today is fast paced and involves a variety of mediums. Preparing our students for an unimaginable future is a responsibility we take very seriously. The diverse learning experiences which are available to the Primary students all commence in Prep and include specialised lessons in:
The subjects listed above are taught by teachers who specialise in their chosen curriculum area. This ensures the standard of education your child receives in these areas is exceptional.
Our core subjects - English, Mathematics, Social Studies (History and Geography) and Science – are taught by class teachers in Prep to Year 3 and specialist teachers in Years 4 to Year 6. The learning experiences in these subjects are explicit, intentional and engaging, encompassing the various learning styles of all our students.
A subject specific program is introduced in Year 4 and continues in Year 5 and 6. This program ensures all students are receiving the best possible education in all subjects. It is also assists students with the transition from Primary school into Secondary school as they learn to follow timetables.
Students in Years 4 to 6 are monitored closely by their Home Room teachers, along with all subject teachers. This means that a team of quality educators are looking after the pastoral and educational needs of your child.
From the first contact with The Lakes College to the time their children graduate in Year 12, our parents and extended family members are treated as highly respected and valued members of the TLC community. Through various formalised programs such as TLCCA (The Lakes College Community Association) and CPR (Class Parent Representatives) and less formal interactions such as classroom and excursion helpers, Father’s Day Breakfasts, Mother’s Day Morning Teas and Grandparents Day Celebrations, our aim is to ensure our parents and other family members feel welcome and that their opinions and ideas are important in the education of their child and the success of the College. All staff warmly welcome interactions with the parent community.
There’s no denying the impact technology has on a child’s life in the 21st century. At The Lakes College we embrace this exciting element of education with specialist ICT lessons occurring from Year 3 to Year 6, a one to one laptop program in Year 5 and 6 and student access to Ipads and/or computers in all Primary classrooms. All use of technology in the Primary School must support and further enhance the delivery of the curriculum and is monitored to ensure the safety of our students. Our teaching staff are supported by the Head of eLearning at the College as they further develop their professional skills in this arena.
