FAQ - Prep

Having your little one start school is a very exciting time for everyone! Below are a list of questions that we are frequently asked. We hope that these questions may be of assistance to you as you consider Prep at The Lakes College.

How early do we need to lodge an application for Prep?

To ensure your child is registered and in the waiting pool for Prep, it is suggested that you lodge an application for your child by their third birthday (this may change depending on demand at the requested year of entry). To commence in Prep children need to be turning 5 (or already turned 5) by 30 June in the year they start Prep. Please refer to the Entry Level Calculator under Enrolments for clarification.

How do we register or enrol?

Please register your child online and to avoid delays in the enrolment process please ensure you have:

  • included a copy of your child's birth certificate/passport
  • completed all fields of the application (both natural parent details need to be included)
  • checked all of your contact details are correct

Come along to one of our Enrolment Events to experience life at TLC.

We're in the Waiting Pool. What happens next?

Once you submit an application for registration, your child's name is added to the waiting pool and you will receive notification from the College via email.

Those in the waiting pool may be contacted at anytime by email to commence the interview process. Please ensure your contact details are kept up to date. You can email changes through at anytime to enrol@thelakes.qld.edu.au. Sometimes there are a lot more applications than places. You are welcome to enquire about your child's place at anytime by contacting the Enrolments Office.

Please note that enrolment interviews can take place either face to face on campus, or via the Microsoft TEAMS platform.

We've had our Interview. What happens next?

Following on from your child's enrolment interview, a letter of offer may be made. This offer letter will be emailed to the email address provided. Please respond to your letter of offer, with the non-refundable Confirmation Fee paid by the due date. Please ensure you complete a medical form, data form and read the Parent Handbook.

If you do not respond to your offer by the due date, your child's offer may be withdrawn and their name returned to the waiting pool. Due to the demand for places in Prep we are unable to extend offer due dates.

We've confirmed our spot. What happens now?

Once you've paid your Confirmation Fee and lodged your Family Enrolment Deposit, your child's enrolment is confirmed!

A great way to familiarise yourself with TLC is to visit us! Please bring your little one along to TLC at our many Enrolment Events being held throughout the year.

Closer to the end of the school year you will receive an email inviting you and your child to attend one of our Orientation Sessions. Please ensure your email addresses are up to date and that you check your emails regularly, as this is how we will communicate with you.
