Sport

We strive to be renowned for integrity, fair play, school spirit and sporting success.

Sport is an integral part of life at The Lakes College. There is a strong emphasis on participation, teamwork and personal fitness where students are encouraged to reach their potential. At TLC, we provide students with the opportunity to play a variety of sports in a healthy, respectful, safe and competitive environment. The College’s curriculum has been carefully designed to cater for and be inclusive of all students in both an academic and sporting sense.

Our team of experienced and passionate coaches support our students to build lifelong healthy habits which will enhance their physical, social and mental wellbeing.

TLC has excellent on-site sporting facilities:

  • Sporting Complex as part of the Multi-Purpose Hall with sprung timber flooring
  • Aquatic Precinct that includes:
    • Outdoor heated 8 lane 25m Pool
    • Separate Learn to Swim facility (coming in 2023)
  • Outdoor Multi-Purpose Courts (resurfaced 2022)
  • Multiple green spaces marked out for various sports
  • Three full size ovals complete with a grass athletics track and long jump pit

Our Junior School Sports program aims to provide students with opportunities to develop the values of leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship on and off the field. Each student has the opportunity to display these values in a variety of sporting environments, while developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity in daily life.

Students in Years 4 to 6 participate in the Northern Independent Schools Sporting Association (NISSA), an interschool sports competition with several other local schools. The main focus of NISSA is to create a quality sporting competition for our Year 4-6 students which promotes a love of sport accompanied by good sportsmanship and 100% participation. NISSA incorporates two seasons across the calendar year, offering a variety of popular sports that culminate each term in an Interschool Gala Day.

Sport and physical education is part of the core curriculum for students in Year 7 - 12. Students in Year 7 - 10 also participate in the NISSA Secondary Independent Schools Sporting competition that further develops strong collegial relationships, sportsmanship and healthy competition of a high standard, amongst like-minded schools.

Students are also eligible to nominate and compete in district and regional sport pathways right through to national representation.

"From high performance athletes through to recreational participants, our young people are very well catered for through tailored offerings at TLC".
